APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS CONSTRUCTION GRADE and ENGINEER GRADE
INTRODUCTION: Merco temporary pavement marking tape is a reflective, highly visible tape ready for immediate service. It is easily applied, conformable to the substrate, and provides a weather and traffic resistant marking without the necessity for barricades, traffic cones or similar devices.
M244 and M245 are designed for temporary installations, such as traffic lane lines, road construction sites, detours and similar traffic control requirements.
APPLICATION: Surface preparation is important for proper performance. The surface must be clean and thoroughly dry, with an ambient and surface temperature of 35 degrees F and rising. Never apply tape over loose or caked dirt, gravel, oily residues, flaking paint or other foreign substances that will interfere with proper bonding.
Gloves should always be worn when unrolling tape to prevent the edges of the tape and cores from damaging the hands. Always butt ends of the tape; never overlap. On long continuous lines, splice the tape every 12-18 feet. Be certain all points of the tape are in full contact with the substrate by tamping firmly or rolling over installation with a vehicle tire. A firm bond is absolutely essential.
PRIMING: Primer Sealer is not required, but used to consolidate dust and dirt particles and to seal the surface against oil residue and moisture if desired.
Primer sealer can be applied by brushing, spraying or rolling a thin but continuous layer on the surface. The rate of application is approximately one (1) gallon for every 200 square feet of tape.
Allow one (1) to five (5) minutes drying time under ideal weather conditions of 70 degrees F and 50 percent relative humidity. Apply tape when the primer sealer is tacky to the touch.
CAUTION: PRIMER SEALER IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND THE VAPOR VERY HARMFUL. AVOID PROLONGED CONTACT WITH THE SKIN AND ANY CONTACT WITH THE EYES. IF SWALLOWED DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING; CALL A PHYSICIAN. SHOULD PRIMER SEALER COME IN CONTACT WITH THE EYES, WASH OUT WITH CLEAN WATER AND CALL A PHYSICIAN. KEEP CONTAINERS TIGHTLY SEALED WHEN NOT IN USE. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
REMOVAL: When short-term, temporary applications are desired, tape can be removed by lifting one edge and pulling. For longer term applications that were primed, or when the tape has worn thin, application of heat will facilitate removal. A medium-sized propane torch or weed burner will provide adequate heat. Any adhesive residue will quickly be worn away. Removal prior to successive overlays of asphalt is not required.
STORAGE: Store indoors in a cool, dry area (50 degrees F-100 degrees F).
